Dr. Mar de Fez Laso joined AUBH as Professor of Math, Physics and Astronomy, while also acting as Program Lead for the Arts and Science Department. She is an analytical, visionary professional with more than 30 years experience across higher education, finance, research, and fellowship environments. She has held many positions including Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Director of Scientific Outreach, Chair of Science, Technology and Mathematics, and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research.

Dr. de Fez Laso's academic experience includes Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, and Foundations of Scientific Process. She is focused on building relationships across educational groups, peers, international partners, ministerial bodies, and top management executives. She has a proven record of architecting and accelerating growth of academic teams, academic curricula, and innovative learning programs. Her latest course, “Explore the Universe”, covers earth sciences, astrophysics, and particle physics. During her academic career, she has been the sole or key author of 9 internationally recognized papers, and joint author of a further 85 papers. She has received 15 grants from both National and International Institutions. She is also the recipient of the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado Award (1995) and the Scientific Ambassador for Spain - European Commission Award (1996).

Dr. de Fez Laso formerly worked in Investment Banking in the UK for BNP Paribas, Dresdner Bank, and Banco Santander. Prior to those roles, she served as a research scientist at the Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine in the UK.

Dr. de Fez Laso's achievements include leading and implementing the General Physics Laboratories for the New York Institute of Technology in Bahrain. She served as organizational lead for the first CERN exhibition in the GCC, and facilitated the acceptance of the first Bahraini student in the summer internship program of CERN. She further selected candidates from Bahraini high schools to attend the 2015 SESAME workshop, an event with participants from 9 Middle Eastern countries. Finally, she assisted in creating the booklet “The Women Have Got the Formula” in its English/Dari/Pashto version, a publication as a result of an international collaboration with the Ciudad de Las Artes y Las Ciencias in Spain.

Dr. de Fez Laso graduated with Honors in Fundamental Physics, and also earned her Ph.D. within the field of Nuclear and Particle Physics from Valencia University, Spain.
